FANTATION, n. Also fantashen. Ravenous hunger, exhaustion from want of food (Sh.10 1951). [fɑnt′e:ʒən]Sh. 1898 Shet. News (27 Aug.):
'Ithoot wark, an' tought about wark we'd shüre be at da staik o' fantashen.
Sh. 1922 J. Inkster Mansie's Röd 121:
A'm no tinkin' 'at shü'll be able ta win hame wi' fantashen, lat alane cauld.
