COACHIE, n. “A coachman” (Bnff.9 c.1927). [′kotʃɪ̢]Ags. 1925 Forfar Dispatch (6 Aug.) 215:
Speakin' aboot taxies minds me o' a guid joke Jeem wis tellin's the ither nicht aboot Tammy Johnson, the auld coachie.

[The suff. -ie is frquently used to indicate “one connected with, one who deals in.” Cf. Clockie, a clockmaker, etc.]
