CHOOPTS, v. In phr.: choopts me, trust me!Lnk. 1926 W. Queen We're a' Coortin 24:
Maist folk think I'm teetotal . . . Choopts me for kennin' I'm no'.

[An unusual corruption of chops me (see Chaps). The vowel change is prob. due to the influence of the Eng. choose. The origin of the intrusion of the t is obscure, but it may be a contr. for it with met., viz. choops (i)t me.]
