AUCHTSOME, n., used also attrib. A company of eight persons; a dance in which eight persons take part.Bnff.2 1932:
The auchtsome reel's a capital dance, an' it's comin' into fashion again.
Id.1932:
There wiz fower strappin' young chiels an' fower sonsy dames; they made a gran' auchtsome.
Ayr. 1887 J. Service Dr Duguid 224:
I ken she had an auchtsome or a ninesome family.
