1. The outer husks of corn; chaff.Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.:
Anns, chaff of oats.
Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928):
Anns, husks of corn esp. of oats.

2. The inner husks of corn, close to the kernel.Sh. 1914 Angus Gl.:
Anns, the heavier part of chaff which rests on the flakki when corn is being winnowed, and does not fly away as the chaff does.
Ags.3 1932:
Anns, the parts of corn that were made into sowens. — But applied also to [the husks of] other kinds of grain.
