Salmond-barrel(l, n. Also: sallmond-, salmon-. [Salmond n. and Barrell n.] A kind of large barrel of a definite size, orig. (? and chiefly) for storing salmon.Orig. of a capacity of 14 gallons, reducing to 12, then to 10 gallons: see below and s.v.
