Stok(k)in(g, Stocking, vbl. n.¹ Also: stok(k)yn, stoiking, stockeing. [Late ME and e.m.E. stokkynge (1450), stocking (1534), stokinge (1588-9); Stok v.¹] The action of Stok v.¹, in various senses.

1. The action or process of fixing (a bell) to its stock, or of furnishing (an artillery piece) with a carriage.(1) 1488 Lanark B. Rec. 2.
