Siterin, n. [e.m.E. cythren pl. (1566), cithron (1567), cittern (1575), citharne (1577) etc., conjectured by OED (s.v. Cithern) to have been derived f. L. cithara, but modelled on gittern (F. guiterne).] A musical instrument of the guitar type. — 1587 Edinb. Test. XVII 162.
